Following the start of the new semester we will offer our popular beginners programme. Over the course of 5 weeks you can learn the basics of agrumentation from experienced debaters and put them to the test in debates, every Monday starting from 6 pm with seminars followed by debates at 7 pm. There is no need for registration, except for the newsletter where the link to the online sessions will be posted.
As educational and great online debating is: It was great to see each other again and debate together at the KHG last Wednesday. Of course all debaters followed the necessary safety measures (wearing a mask, keeping a safe distance etc.). If you want to stay updated and want to participate at one of our debates, just subscribe to our newsletter.
We are very happy that the Central European Cyberspace Open was so successful and that there were so many great debates! The tournament that we organised together with three other clubs (see last post for more information) proved that debating even works in times of Corona. We are also happy that we were able to donate the entire registration fees from the tournament to a good cause. The winners of the tournament were allowed to decide to which organizations the donations (all in all 390 Euros!) should go to: "SOS Rijeka" and "Against Malaria Foundation". - Congratulations to Lovro and Tin, who won the Open Final and to Olja and Petar, who won the EFL. We are also very happy that members of the Debattierclub München achieved a break, too: Congratulations, Uzair and Philipp, for your Open Break! For reasons of transparency and credibility we would like to share the two donation confirmations / thank-you e-mails from the organisations with you:
This weekend (May 9-10) Uzair and his team partner Calyxx (Berlin) broke into the semi-final of the online tournament "Parassat Open 2020". Congratulations on this great result!
The year is 2020 A.D. The public life is entirely occupied by the corona crisis. Well, not entirely... A strong debate club still holds out against the hardships and carries on its weekly training sessions online on Mixidea! This way we can not only keep our rhetorical skills sharp, but also train together with debaters from the whole worls. The competitive debating is also going forward. On the first weekend of April a few Munich teams took part in the first European online debating tournament: Berlin Online. And on the 25-25 of April we organize an own online tournament together with three other clubs (Prague, Cracow and Aalto): Central European Cyberspace Open. We are excited for this and thank everyone who is going to take part in it!
On Friday a few of our members had the great opportunity to listen to Ban Ki-Moon's speech at TUM SPEAKERS SERIES. The Tum Speakers Series is an official side event of the Munich Security Conference, a forum for global foreign and security policy issues. H.E. Ban Ki-moon is a South Korean diplomat and politician. From 2004 to 2006 he was the Foreign Minister of South Korea and from 2007 to 2016 eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations.
We want to thank TUM SPEAKERS SERIES a lot for inviting us! We had a lively discussion afterwards and enjoyed the evening a lot.
